Justin Bieber show benefits Vegas school

LAS VEGAS, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- A Las Vegas principal says Justin Bieber's benefit concert at her elementary school was an amazing gift for her students.

The teenaged pop sensation serenaded 650 kids at Whitney Elementary School Friday with songs from his new Christmas album and then signed a check for $100,000 to bolster the school, which serves a large number of low-income and even homeless children.

"It was so wonderful and meaningful," said Principal Sherrie Gahn. "He gave them memories no one could ever take away. They had the best Christmas present."

The Las Vegas Sun said Bieber also signed autographs and talked to the students about his own childhood with a single mom and not a lot of money.

"It's great he made that connection with our students," Gahn said.

The Sun said Whitney has attained national acclaim as a source of services for its underprivileged students, including healthcare, food and even clothing. Gahn said the services, which depend on donations like Bieber's, reduce stress within entire families, making it possible for the students to focus on their education.
