Essence magazine to honor Blige

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Essence magazine says it will honor recording star Mary J. Blige at its Black Women in Music gala in Los Angeles.

Blige is being recognized "as an influential artist, successful entrepreneur and passionate philanthropist," organizers said.

The event will be Wednesday at the Sunset Tower Hotel.

Also expected to attend are singers Estelle, Melanie Fiona, Ne-Yo and Trey Songz; rapper/actor Ludacris; actresses Nia Long, Holly Robinson Peete and Kim Coles; and Essence President Michelle Ebanks and Essence Editor-in-Chief Angela Burt-Murray.
