Turtles All the Way Down is based on the John Green novel of the same name, which follows Aza Holmes, a teenager with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and anxiety. Merced plays Aza in the film adaptation.

"It's not easy being Aza, but she's trying... trying to be a good daughter, a good friend, and a good student, all while navigating an endless barrage of invasive, obsessive thoughts that she cannot control. When she reconnects with Davis, her childhood crush, Aza is confronted with fundamental questions about her potential for love, happiness, friendship, and hope," an official synopsis reads.

Cree, Felix Mallard, Judy Reyes, Maliq Johnson and J. Smith-Cameron also star.

Turtles All the Way Down is written by Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker and directed by Hannah Marks. Green serves as an executive producer.

The film premieres in the spring.

Green's books Looking for Alaska, Paper Towns and The Fault in Our Stars were previously adapted for TV and film.
