Debra Messing joins '13: The Musical!' at Netflix

May 25 (UPI) -- Debra Messing has joined the cast of Netflix's 13: The Musical!

The streaming service confirmed Monday that Messing, 52, will star in the upcoming film.

13: The Musical! is based on the Broadway musical of the same name. The original show features music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown and a book by Dan Elish and Robert Horn.

Brown will compose new music for the movie adaptation, with Horn to adapt the script. Tamra Davis (Crossroads, High School Musical: The Series) will direct.

13 follows Evan Goldman, a 12-year-old boy who moves with his family from New York to a small town in Indiana. He grapples with his parents' divorce, a new school and preparing for his Bar Mitzvah.

Messing joins previously announced stars Eli Golden, Gabriella Uhl, JD McCrary, Frankie McNellis, Lindsey Blackwell, Jonathan Lengel, Ramon Reed, Nolen Dubuc and Luke Islam. Messing will play Evan's (Golden) mom.

Messing is best known for playing Grace Adler on the NBC series Will & Grace.
