Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Shia LaBeouf puts it all on line as tennis pro John McEnroe as he faces off against his rival Bjorn Borg (Sverrir Gudnason), in the new trailer for upcoming sports drama, Borg/McEnroe.

Based on a true story, the film will highlight the competitors famous Wimbledon finals battle in 1980, considered one of the greatest tennis matches of all time.

The clip, released Friday, features LaBeouf and Gudnason getting ready for the big match as their polar opposite personalities are put on display.

"It's the summer of 1980 and Björn Borg (Gudnason) is the top tennis player in the world, dominating the sport both on and off the court. A powerful and rigorously disciplined player, there is only one obstacle in his pursuit of a record-breaking fifth Wimbledon championship: the highly talented but ferociously abrasive young American, John McEnroe (LaBeouf)," reads the synopsis.

Borg/McEnroe from director Janus Metz, will premiere on Sept. 7 at the Toronto International Film Festival before it is released in the U.S. in 2018, noted The Hollywood Reporter.

"Jake is me. So is McEnroe. That's it, man," LaBeouf said previously about how he relates to McEnroe and his American Honey character Jake. "I understand these people, I empathize with them. I get it. You turn things up and turn things down. It's me."
