'La La Land,' 'Arrival,' and 'Nocturnal Animals' lead BAFTA film nominations

LONDON, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Following its dominate performance at the Golden Globe Awards, La La Land has earned 11 British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) nominations alongside Arrival and Nocturnal Animals with nine.

The musical, starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, is nominated for Best Film, Best Director for Damien Chazelle, Original Screenplay, Original Music, Cinematography and Lead Actor and Lead Actress for Gosling and Stone.

On Sunday, the picture took home Golden Globes for Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy, Best Screenplay, Best Original Score, and Best Original Song for "City of Stars."

Right behind La La Land is sci-fi thriller Arrival which earned nominations for Best Picture, Best Director for Denis Villeneuve, Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, Original Music and Best Actress for star Amy Adams.

Adams also stars in Nocturnal Animals which is competing in categories for Best Director for Tom Ford, Adapted Screenplay, Original Music, Cinematography, Lead Actor for star Jake Gyllenhaal and Supporting Actor for Aaron Taylor-Johnson who took home the Golden Globe in the same category.

Other notable films include Manchester By The Sea with six nominations, Moonlight with four, I, Daniel Blake with five, Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them with five and Hell or High Water with three.

The 2017 BAFTA Film Awards is set to take place Feb. 12 at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
