LOS ANGELES, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Kate Beckinsale is back as vampire death dealer Selene in the first action-packed trailer for Underworld: Blood Wars.
The clip, released Wednesday, features the long-running franchise's star attempting to end the eternal war between the Lycan and Vampire clans as she hunts for missing hybrid Michael.
"The next installment in the blockbuster franchise, Underworld: Blood Wars follows Vampire death dealer, Selene (Beckinsale) as she fends off brutal attacks from both the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her," reads the official synopsis.
"With her only allies, David (Theo James) and his father Thomas (Charles Dance), she must stop the eternal war between Lycans and Vampires, even if it means she has to make the ultimate sacrifice."
Back in April, studios Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainment announced the official title of the fifth installment after asking fans on social media to submit ideas for a name.
Beckinsale first appeared as Selene in the first Underworld film released in 2003 and again in the second and fourth entries in the series. The third installment was a prequel that did not feature Beckinsale.
Directed by Anna Foerster with a script by Cory Goodman, Underworld: Blood Wars arrives in theaters Jan. 6, 2017.
