TORONTO, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- The Force is strong with Netflix's Canadian branch. Eight months after Star Wars: The Force Awakens premieres in theaters, the epic sci-fi fantasy will become available for streaming through Netflix, but only in Canada.
According to Variety, Netflix's Canadian deal with Disney covers movies released in 2015 and onward, thus including the latest Star Wars. In the United States, Disney can only release films released in 2016 or later onto the streaming service.
Premium cable channel Starz will be the only pay-TV home option for the film as their exclusive deal with Disney runs through the end of 2015.
The news comes less than a week after the studio released an epic new trailer for the film and broke pre-sale records when tickets went on sale for opening day showings last Monday.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in theaters Dec. 18.
