LOS ANGELES, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Jennifer Jason Leigh has been cast in Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight.

The 52-year-old actress will portray female lead Daisy Domergue, a prisoner due to hang for murder. The Hateful Eight follows Domergue and seven other contentious characters who find themselves trapped in a remote saloon during a storm.

Tarantino had previously shelved the film after the script leaked in January, but announced he would rework and move forward with the project after he hosted a live reading in April. Samuel L. Jackson (Major Warren), Tim Roth (Oswaldo Mobray), Michael Madsen (Joe Gage), Walton Goggins (Chris Mannix), Denis Menochet (Bob) and Bruce Dern (General Smithers) read at the event and are expected to star, and Kurt Russell confirmed he will appear as bounty hunter John Ruth in July.

The Hateful Eight will be shot in Colorado, and is scheduled for release in fall 2015. Leigh will next appear as Joan in Amityville: The Awakening in January 2015.
