HOLLYWOOD, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Rooney Mara will stretch her vocal cords in the upcoming musical film Ziggy, set in New York City's roaring 20s.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo actress signed on to the production from Australian writer-director Diesel Shwarze, whose previous work included Moulin Rouge.

Mara will star opposite Dane DeHaan, the villain in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. He'll play a hunchback escape artist who falls in love with Mara's character, the fiancee of a media mogul.

"Diesel has written an incredibly beautiful and ambitious story and his background working under Baz Luhrmann combined with his prolific commercial work, lends itself to bringing this story to life in a visually inspired and exciting way," said producer Lynette Howell.

Ziggy will be Shwarze's debut feature film.
