LOS ANGELES, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Katie Holmes will make her directorial debut with All We Had.

Previous reports suggested the 35-year-old actress would produce the film, but she is confirmed to direct and star in the project instead. Jane Rosenthal (About a Boy) will produce, and The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone will pen the script.

All We Had is based on Annie Weatherwax's novel of the same name, and follows a mother, Rita (Holmes), and daughter, Ruthie, who fall on hard times. The pair are kicked out of their home and end up in small town Fat River, where Rita is able to secure a job at a diner. A number of quirky residents inhabit the city, and help mother and daughter rebuild their lives.

"I am very excited and honored to be collaborating with Jane and Josh on this project and so look forward to bringing Annie's incredible characters to the screen," Holmes said in a statement.

"Katie has such a clear vision for the book's irreverent, original mother-daughter relationship," Rosenthal lauded. "Her passion for the material, along with Josh Boone's ability to tell stories grounded in the comedy and drama of everyday, all truly bring these characters to life."
