Richard Gere stars in 'Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' trailer

The original film follows a group of British pensioners who move to a retirement hotel in India.

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Richard Gere stars in the first trailer for The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

The 64-year-old actor portrays Guy, a handsome American traveler, who piques Madge Hardcastle's (Celia Imrie) interest. The sequel sees Sonny Kapoor (Dev Patel) and Muriel Donnelly (Maggie Smith) continue to manage the Marigold Hotel as Sonny prepares to wed Sunaina (Tena Desae) and makes plans for expansion. Other returning characters include tenants Evelyn Greensdale (Judi Dench), Douglas Ainslie (Bill Nighy), Jean Ainslie (Penelope Wilton), Norman Cousins (Ronald Pickup) and Carol (Diana Hardcastle).

The original Best Exotic Marigold Hotel was based on Deborah Moggach's novel These Foolish Things, and premiered in 2012. The film was a success with both critics and audiences, and grossed over $136 million at the box office. Original writer Ol Parker penned the screenplay for the sequel, and John Madden returned to direct.

The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel opens in theaters March 6, 2015. Gere last appeared in Arbitrage in 2012, and will star in Time Out of Mind and Franny later this year.
