SYDNEY, April 17 (UPI) -- Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson star in a gritty first trailer for The Rover. The preview opens with shots of Pearce and Pattinson against an Australian backdrop, as lines from W.B. Yeats' poem "The Second Coming" play across the screen -- "Things fall apart / The center cannot hold / Anarchy is loosed upon the world."

Pearce stars in the new movie as Eric, a loner whose vehicle is stolen by a gang of thieves, while Pattinson appears as Rey, a gang member wounded and left behind in the struggle. Eric and Rey form an uneasy alliance as they track the gang together across Australia.
"It's very odd," Pattinson tells the Sydney Morning Herald. "There's something strange and disturbing about the whole relationship."
The movie's title refers to the state of Pearce's character -- damaged, solitary and facing a bleak and uncertain future. The film takes place "in an unspecified relatively new future, after a number of years of quite seriously steady Western economic decline," but is "not post-apocaplyse," according to director David Michôd (Animal Kingdom).
The Rover debuts in U.S. theaters on June 14.
