'Frozen' freezes out competition

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- "Frozen (2013)," with the voice of Kristen Bell, iced out the competition for the weekend with $31.641 million in receipts.

"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," starring Jennifer Lawrence, fell to No. 2 with $27 million in its third weekend.

All studio estimates of gross North American receipts are via Box Office Mojo.

"Out of the Furnace" was third with $5.3 million; "Thor: The Dark World" fourth with $4.74 million; "Delivery Man" fifth with $3.775 million; "Homefront" sixth with $3.384 million; "The Book Thief" seventh with $2.7 million; "The Best Man Holiday" eight with $2.673 million; "Philomena" eighth with $2.282 million.

"Dallas Buyers Club" was 10th with $1.459 million.
