Gal Gadot to play Wonder Woman in 'Man of Steel' sequel

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Israeli-born actress Gal Gadot has been cast as Wonder Woman in "Batman vs. Superman," director Zack Snyder announced.

The film is the follow-up to Snyder's 2013 blockbuster "Man of Steel." It will star Henry Cavill as Superman and Ben Affleck as Batman.

"Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the [DC Comics] Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character," The Hollywood Reporter quoted Snyder as saying Wednesday.

Gadot's film credits include the last three "Fast & Furious" movies, as well as the comedies "Date Night" and "Knight and Day."
