Actor Nicol Williamson dead at 73

LONDON, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Scottish actor and musician Nicol Williamson has died in Holland following a two-year fight with esophageal cancer, his son Luke said. He was 73.

A Shakespearean actor best known for his popular films "The Exorcist III" and "Excalibur," Williamson last appeared on the big screen in the 1997 superhero movie "Spawn." He won a Tony Award for his work in the Broadway play "Inadmissible Evidence" in the 1960s.

Williamson's son Luke told The Daily Telegraph the actor died just before Christmas but was adamant he didn't want any fanfare regarding his passing.

The elder Williamson moved to Amsterdam in the 1970s and focused on his music until his death. A new album called "Nine Slices" or "Kismet Once Again" might yet be released, his son said.
