HOLLYWOOD, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Mark Ruffalo, Julia Roberts and Alec Baldwin will top the cast in the film version of the Tony-winning play "The Normal Heart," the producers announced.

Matt Bomer and Jim Parsons have also been nailed down by Ryan Murphy, who will produce the movie for Brad Pitt's Plan B company, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"The Normal Heart" is set in New York's homosexual community amid the AIDS onslaught of the 1980s. The play won the Tony for best revival last year.

Parsons, who was in last year's stage version, will revive his role as a southern-born gay activist.

The Reporter said financing was still being put together; however there has reportedly been serious interest in the project from Participant Pictures.
