GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alberta, July 23 (UPI) -- Dan Aykroyd brought a group of friends to western Canada this week for a fundraising dig for dinosaur bones.
The aim is to raise money for the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum in Grande Prairie, Alberta, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported. Aykroyd met Currie last year and became a supporter of his efforts.
"Celebrity is good for getting a good table at a restaurant maybe, or occasionally getting out of a speeding ticket and this kind of thing where you're trying to raise awareness for a cause. So that's what we're doing," Aykroyd said.
The crew for the two-day dig included Patricia Cornwell, the prolific writer of mysteries, and Robert Kennedy Jr., an environmental lawyer and son of Sen. Robert Kennedy.
The site of the dig was an area near Pipestone Creek Park nicknamed the River of Death. A herd of Pachyrhinosaurus lakustai, a previously unknown horned dinosaur, was killed there in a flood 73 million years ago.
"It is a Canadian treasure house, and I want to bring people from all over the world to Canada to help display what's here and show the world we have this incredible resource right here in this province," Aykroyd said.
