LOS ANGELES, May 4 (UPI) -- Musician Oksana Grigorieva Wednesday dropped her domestic violence claim against actor-director Mel Gibson in a Los Angeles courtroom, TMZ reported.

Grigorieva and Gibson have a 1-year-old daughter together. They broke up in 2010 after dating for about a year.

Audio allegedly featuring Gibson screaming at and threatening Grigorieva, as well as making racist comments during a heated argument, were leaked to the Internet last summer.

Grigorieva, who denies releasing the damaging sound bites, has accused Gibson of assaulting her.

Although Gibson initially denied any wrongdoing, he subsequently pleaded no contest to a domestic violence charge and was placed on probation in March.

TMZ said Grigorieva's lawyer, Dan Horowitz, appeared before Judge Scott Gordon Wednesday and said Grigorieva no longer plans to pursue her claim against Gibson in her effort to change the custody order pertaining to their daughter.

Gibson's lawyer, Stephen Kolodny, and the judge "were visibly shocked," TMZ said.

The celebrity news Web site cited unnamed sources as saying Grigorieva dropped the domestic violence claim because she wants to be able to communicate directly with Gibson, instead of relying on intermediaries.
