Hammer in talks to play Lone Ranger

LOS ANGELES, April 29 (UPI) -- Actor Armie Hammer is talking to Disney about playing the Lone Ranger to Johnny Depp's Tonto in a new take on the old Western duo, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Hammer is best known for playing the Winklevoss twins in this year's Best Picture Oscar contender "The Social Network."

The actor has met with "Ranger" director Gore Verbinski for the role, but has not officially signed on to the movie project, the Reporter said Thursday.

Depp and Verbinski previously worked together on three "Pirates of the Caribbean" flicks and the animated movie "Rango."
