'Sister Act' to open on B'way in March

LONDON, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- A stage musical based on the hit 1992 movie "Sister Act" is to open on Broadway in March, the show's producers said.

The musical has been enjoying a successful run in London's West End.

Casting for the U.S. production has not yet been announced, the BBC said.

Whoopi Goldberg, the film's star, appeared in the West End production during the summer.

Performances of the Broadway production are to begin

in March, with opening night set for April 20, the BBC said.

Like the film, the musical is about a lounge singer who hides out in a convent after witnessing a mob slaying.
