'Sex and the City' alum Willie Garson dead at 57

Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Sex and the City scene-stealer Willie Garson, who played Carrie's best friend Stanford Blatch, has died of cancer at the age of 57.

His manager, John Carrabino, announced Garson's death to Deadline Tuesday.

The actor's son, Nathen, also confirmed the news on Instagram.

"I love you so much papa. Rest In Peace and I'm so glad you got to share all your adventures with me and were able to accomplish so much," the younger Garson said.

"I'm so proud of you. I will always love you, but I think it's time for you to go on an adventure of your own. You'll always be with me. Love you more than you will ever know and I'm glad you can be at peace now. You always were the toughest and funniest and smartest person I've known. I'm glad you shared you're love with me. I'll never forget it or lose it."

Actor Dule Hill commented on the post: "Thinking of you and sending love to you Nathan. Stay Encouraged."

HBO mourned Garson's death on Twitter.

"Willie Garson was in life, as on screen, a light for everyone in his universe," the cable network said. "He created one of HBO's most beloved characters and was a member of our family for nearly 25 years. We are deeply saddened to learn of his passing and extend condolences to his family and loved ones."

Actor and filmmaker Ben Stiller tweeted: "Sending love to @WillieGarson's son Nathen. Your dad was strong and respected in his community of fellow actors and his philanthropy was constant and committed. I'm grateful I knew him. He was also really really funny."

Garson had been working on HBO Max's Sex and the City sequel series, And Just Like That, at the time of his death.

His other TV credits included NYPD Blue, Mr. Belvedere, Family Ties, Coach, Quantum Leap, Monk, Ally McBeal, Party of Five, Friends and White Collar.

He also appeared in the films Troop Beverly Hills, Soapdish, Groundhog Day, Black Sheep, Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead, Kingpin, Being John Malkovich, Just Like Heaven, There's Something About Mary and The Polka King.
