Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Singer and actress Reba McEntire said she is grateful she escaped unharmed when the staircase crumbled in an historic building she was touring.

"While my team and I were in Atoka, OK yesterday checking out an old historical building, a staircase collapsed," the country star tweeted Wednesday.

"Thankfully, no one was seriously injured. We were safely evacuated from the building thanks to the quick response from the Atoka fire and police departments."

McEntire left the building, which was more than 100 years old, on a fire ladder from a second-story window Tuesday afternoon, News 12 reported.

"Oh, it was pretty scary, I was worried about who was downstairs and how bad it was," said Coby Scherrill, who was with McEntire at the time, scouting locations for a future project.

"We were just touring the building and the stairwell was weak. It seemed weak but we did not realize how weak it was until several people had gone down it and then we heard the crash and saw the stairs fall."
