July 2 (UPI) -- Toronto rapper Smoke Dawg, known for this remix of "Trap House" with French Montana and for opening for Drake during this 2017 Boy Meets World European tour, has died at the age of 21.
Smoke Dawg, real name Jahvante Smart, was shot along with Ernest Modekwe, a producer known as Koba Prime and a woman, outside Cube Nightclub in Toronto on Saturday, CP24 reported.
Drake paid tribute to Smoke Dawg in an Instagram story alongside a photo of himself onstage with the rapper. "All these gifts and blessed souls and inner lights being extinguished lately is devastating," Drake said. "I wish peace would wash over our city. So much talent and so many stories we never get to see play out. Rest up Smoke."
Smoke Dawg was a member of the Halal Gang which included other rappers such as Safe, Puffy L'z and Mo-G. He recently released a new music video for his track "Fountain Freestyle."
