Oprah Winfrey welcomes DJ Khaled to Weight Watchers team

The pair will promote the company's WW Freestyle weight loss program.

Jan. 3 (UPI) -- Oprah Winfrey gave a warm welcome to DJ Khaled following news he will join the Weight Watchers team.

The 63-year-old media mogul, who has served as spokesperson for the company since 2015, reached out to Khaled in a tweet Tuesday after the 42-year-old music producer was named a social media ambassador for the program.

"@djkhaled Welcome to #WWFreestyle. Can't wait to see you #blessup this program," she wrote, adding a peace sign and fist bump emoji.

DJ Khaled responded by sharing a screenshot of Winfrey's post on Instagram. He shared his enthusiasm for his new partnership in the caption.

"Happy new year!!!!!!!! @oprah !!!!!!! Let's win more !!!! GOD IS THE GREATEST! WETHEBEST!!!! BLESS UP!!" the star wrote.

Weight Watchers announced Monday that DJ Khaled, who boasts over 12.8 million followers on Twitter and Instagram, will complete its WW Freestyle weight loss program. The star will document his progress on social media.

"By capturing and sharing his process, he will enliven and inspire his community, showing that it's possible to integrate healthy habits into your life," Weight Watchers president and CEO Mindy Grossman said in a press release.

CNBC reported Weight Watchers stock rose eight percent Tuesday following news of DJ Khaled's endorsement. The WW Freestyle program, which also features Winfrey, launched in December.
