Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Late R&B star Aaliyah will be honored with a new M.A.C. Cosmetics collection in 2018.

The company announced in an Instagram post Thursday that the "One in a Million" singer is the inspiration behind a new makeup line scheduled for release in the summer.

"Aaliyah is truly one in a million -- an unstoppable icon whose groundbreaking work in R&B music and film inspires us all," M.A.C. Cosmetics wrote.

"Today we join her countless fans in celebrating her with the announcement of the M.A.C. Aaliyah collection. You made it happen! Stay tuned in 2018. #AaliyahforMAC @aaliyah_haughton_official," the company added.

A Change.org petition for M.A.C. Cosmetics to produce an Aaliyah collection received over 26,000 signatures last year. M.A.C. Cosmetics released a limited edition collection inspired by late Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla in October.

Aaliyah skyrocketed to fame after releasing her debut album, Age Ain't Nothing but a Number, in 1994. She subsequently released the albums One in Million (1996) and Aaliyah (2001), and starred in the films Romeo Must Die and Queen of the Damned.

Aaliyah was out just eight weeks when Aaliyah and eight others were killed in a plane crash in August 2001 after filming the singer's music video for "Rock the Boat." The star was 22 at the time of her death.
