March 21 (UPI) -- Jenny Slate says she and ex-boyfriend Chris Evans are "really, really different" people.

The 34-year-old actress opened up about her relationship and ultimate breakup with the 35-year-old Captain America star in the March 20 issue of New York Magazine.

"We're really, really different," Slate told the publication. "Chris is a very, very famous person. For him to go to a restaurant is totally different than for me to go ... This is what I needed to do to feel normal. To be alone."

"We're not on bad terms, but we haven't really seen each other, spoken a lot [since the split]," she shared. "I think it's probably best. I'd love to be his friend one day, but we threw down pretty hard. No regrets, though. Ever."

Slate and Evans started dating in mid-2016 after meeting on the set of the movie Gifted. The pair instantly connected, but their romance was complicated by Evans' celebrity and Slate's divorce from Dean Fleischer-Camp.

"To be quite honest, I didn't think I was his type," the actress said before admitting, "If you are a woman who really cares about her freedom, her rights, her sense of being an individual, it is confusing to go out with one of the most objectified people in the entire world."

"When Chris and started dating, my husband and I had only been separated for a couple months," she later added. "I just didn't have the tools. And I didn't think very hard about that, to be honest, I wanted to step into the light."

Us Weekly reported in February that Slate and Evans had split the month before, with sources claiming the breakup was "completely amicable and a mutual decision." The pair play love interests in Gifted, which opens in theaters April 21.
