NASHVILLE, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Smashing Pumpkins front man Billy Corgan has become the new president of Impact Ventures, the parent company of TNA Wrestling.

Announced Saturday, Corgan, a lifelong fan of professional wrestling, replaces long-running president Dixie Carter who is shifting over to a new role as Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer.

"I believe in this company, its passionate fans, the talented roster and the dedicated staff and crew," the rocker said in a statement.

"I am committed to this great opportunity and will use all of my resources and connections to drive the success of this company. This year we have made significant strides in establishing a strong foundation for our future and will be aggressive in continuing to evolve and grow the Impact brands," he continued.

Corgan has experience working in the world of professional wrestling with owning his own promotion, Resistance Pro Wrestling in Chicago and has been working with TNA since May of 2015 when he signed on a senior producer at the company.

TNA currently produces Impact Wrestling which airs live Thursdays at 8/7c on Pop. While not as popular as rival WWE, TNA has carved out its own niche in professional wrestling for themselves and remain active with its unique roster of former wrestling stars, legends and newcomers.

In the past, Carter has appeared on Impact Wrestling as an on-screen character but it remains to be seen if Corgan will do the same.
