LONDON, June 28 (UPI) -- Mark Hamill is assuring fans on social media that Luke Skywalker will not die in Star Wars: Episode VIII after comments he made about being out a job.

"I meant 'out of work' because #Ep8 is wrapping soon, OK?" #DontOverThinkEVERYTHING #ParsingHamill #WaitForVIII," the actor wrote on Twitter Monday to clear the air.

According to The Wrap, speculation arose that Skywalker might die in the latest Star Wars installment after he mentioned at The Big Issue event in London, "I finish Episode VIII and then I'm out of work."

A surprise death of a major character near the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens may have also led fans to believe that the iconic Jedi Knight would soon meet his end.

Hamill last made headlines when he showed support for a female fan on Twitter who wanted to cosplay as Luke Skywalker.
