LOS ANGELES, June 15 (UPI) -- Charlie Sheen has become the new spokesman for Lelo Hex condoms, appearing in a new ad to promote safe sex and discuss his HIV diagnosis.

"What may feel like five seconds of an inconvenience or a halted or thwarted moment, can absolutely prevent a lifetime of potential grief and suffering," the actor who revealed he was HIV positive in November says in the ad.

"It's a dialogue people don't want to have. A lot has to do with that fantasy belief that that could never happen to them and that's something I can speak to. I pretty much felt the same way – 'That stuff's for other people,'" Sheen continues.

After noting in the clip how searches online about HIV increased after he went public, the 50-year-old notes how important it is to use condoms and how Lelo Hex provides the best protection on the market.

"There's an odd combination now of people still wanting to be like me or experiencing my life, but there's a little detail they want no part of," he notes. "So they can avoid that by using this."

"Time's are changing. What do I think of condoms? Well, as they say, youth is wasted on the young," Sheen wrote on Twitter Tuesday alongside the promotional ad.
