LOS ANGELES, May 11 (UPI) -- Drew Barrymore opened up about her divorce from art consultant Will Kopelman, saying she is ashamed of it.

Speaking to host Chelsea Handler on her new Netflix talk show, Chelsea, Barrymore said she put the word "failure" in her public announcement of her divorce in early April "because it's so honest."

"When you break up with somebody, you're like, 'Yeah, that didn't work,' [but] when you get divorced you're like, 'I'm the biggest failure. This is the biggest failure," the actress said, according to Entertainment Tonight.

"It's so shameful and hard to actually go through that, even privately," she added.

Regarding what's next, Barrymore isn't interested in dating again anytime soon, she told Handler. Instead, she said she wants to spend time with her friends.

"What I do want is girlfriend time," she said.

Barrymore married Kopelman in June 2012 before announcing their divorce last month. "Sadly, our family is separating legally, although we do not feel this takes away from us being a family," the joint statement from the two read.

"Divorce might make one feel like a failure, but eventually you start to find grace in the idea that live goes on," it continued. "Our children are our universe, and we look forward to living the rest of our lives with them as the first priority."
