STOCKHOLM, Sweden, April 20 (UPI) -- Prince Carl Philip and wife Sofia Hellqvist have welcomed their first child together.
The baby boy was reportedly born in Stockholm Tuesday night, prompting celebratory gun shots to ring out across the country the following day, The Local reported.
The new royal's name will be revealed Thursday, Prince Carl Philip said in a press conference following the birth. "For my wife and me, this is a great day full of emotion," he said.
The baby was born weighing 8 pounds and measuring 19.3 inches long, the 36-year-old royal added.
The prince and princess -- a former reality television personality -- married in June of last year after five years of dating. Their wedding, consisting of roughly 550 guests from all over the world, included a classic horse-drawn carriage and other royal details.
P Carl Philip and P Sofia have become the proud parents of a boy at 6.25 pm on April 19. The baby weighs 3595 gram and measures 49 cm.
