DALLAS, April 4 (UPI) -- WWE's biggest event of the year, WrestleMania, shocks the sports-entertainment world Sunday with surprises, celebrity guest-appearances and the crowning of new champions.

Before the showcase of the immortals got started inside the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas, WWE Hall of Famer Lita introduced the brand-new Women's Championship to replace the formerly titled Divas Championship.

The new title, complete with a flashy redesign, was up for grabs during WrestleMania in a triple-match between defending Divas champion Charlotte, the fierce Becky Lynch and 'The Boss' Sasha Banks. After a competitive match that saw the women exchange devastating blows, 16-time World Champion Ric Flair got involved in the match helping his daughter Charlotte become the new Women's Champion.

"With help from the #DirtiestPlayerInTheGame, @MsCharlotteWWE takes home the NEW @WWE #WomensTitle!," WWE wrote on Twitter about Charlotte's victory alongside a photo of the competitor holding the new belt.

Shortly afterwards, the dreaded Hell in a Cell cage descended upon the ring signaling the start of The Undertaker's match against WWE's former heir to the throne Shane McMahon. Despite being outmatched against a WrestleMania legend, Shane-O-Mac pulled out all the stops as he attempted to defeat The Undertaker in order to gain control of the company away from his father Vince McMahon.

The Undertaker did not hold back as well with his career on the line. The brutal contest came to head after Shane attempted a dangerous elbow drop 20-feet high atop the cage onto a dazed Undertaker. While mid-air, The Undertaker moved out of the way, leaving Shane to burst through a table and ending his chances at victory. The Undertaker then ended the match with a quick tombstone, showing respect to the prodigal son in the process.

"With a #TombstonePiledriver, The #Undertaker keeps @VinceMcMahon's legacy in tact...," the company wrote on Twitter alongside a photo of The Undertaker starring down a defeated Shane. The Undertaker's victory ensures that Vince McMahon and The Authority stay in power on Monday Night Raw.

For the main event, WWE COO Triple H and Roman Reigns finally faced-off in their highly publicized match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Accompanied to the ring by his wife Stephanie McMahon, Triple H did everything in his power to keep the Roman Empire away from the title.

After intervening in the match multiple times, Reigns inadvertently speared Stephanie taking her out of the equation but not before she could hand Triple H his signature sledgehammer. The weapon was of no use however as Reigns quickly dodged a series of swings to land another spear for the three count to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

"The #RomanEmpire RISES as @WWERomanReigns defeats @TripleH for the #WWEChampionship!" WWE noted on Twitter next to a photo of Reigns celebrating in the ring.

Other notable moments from the event which broke WWE's all-time attendance record with 101,763 fans present, include Zack Ryder winning the Intercontinental Championship in an exciting ladder match, Chris Jericho defeating AJ Styles in a close, heated battle, NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal confronting the Big Show during the annual Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal and Brock Lesnar taking Dean Ambrose to Suplex City during their violent street fight.

WWE legends were also on hand at WrestleMania with Hall of Famers Shawn Michaels, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Mick Foley coming to the aid of The New Day after their match with the League of Nations and The Rock with a returning John Cena teaming-up to battle the Wyatt Family after the people's champion defeated Erik Rowan in a record-setting six seconds.
