NEW YORK, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Zendaya says she and Odell Beckham, Jr., aren't dating just yet.

The 19-year-old actress and singer downplayed her relationship with the 23-year-old New York Giants wide receiver Wednesday on 92.3 Amp after leaving a Grammys after-party with Beckham last week.

"Here's the thing -- a couple things. First of all, it wasn't really a date," she said. "We went to some events together because we're friends, you know what I'm saying? We were with a group, we were with multiple people."

"Even if it does progress, you gotta go through my dad first," she added. "Just because you're in the NFL doesn't mean you get to skip past Pops. He's not going to allow that to happen ... I wouldn't want it any other way."

Zendaya ended the conversation by saying Beckham is "auditioning" to take their relationship to the next level. Her dad, Kazembe Ajamu Coleman, had similar sentiments when TMZ approached the trio at the Grammys after-party Feb. 15.

"What relationship? There's no relationship," Coleman told the website. "We're just friends. [I am] absolutely [chaperoning the pair]. When you see my daughter out on a date without me, it's a relationship. [Right now] it's like an audition. It's an interview."

Zendaya made headlines for her mullet hairstyle at the Grammys but was not nominated for awards. The actress denied she is dating longtime friend Trevor Jackson in the December/January issue of Complex, saying she's too busy for a boyfriend.

"You've got to realize my schedule is kind of nuts," she told the magazine. "I don't have time to go out and get to know somebody. If I didn't know you from the last three or four years of my life, it's probably too late."

Zendaya is known for playing Rocky Blue on Disney Channel series Shake It Up and portrays K.C. Cooper on K.C. Undercover. She also competed on Dancing with the Stars Season 16 and released her debut, self-titled album in 2013.
