The absence of Rey, the main female character in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, from several toy sets and other games has internet users crying sexism.
While Hasbro responded to complaints on Twitter explaining Rey was excluded to avoid spoiling the plot of the movie, this is hardly the first time main female characters have been left out of official figurine sets. Here are five times the heroines of the story got left out:
Marvel Comics's "Mutant Hall of Fame" (limited collector's edition) doesn't feature any of the franchise's female X-Men including protagonists Jean Grey, Storm and Rogue.
Similarly, Marvel's Avengers vs Ultron 9-pack figurine set leaves out both of the story's female characters -- veteran Black Widow and new-comer Scarlet Witch.
Lego also failed to include The Lego Movie's heroine Wyldstyle/Lucy, played by Elizabeth Banks in the movie, in its Super Secret Police Drop 854 Pcs Building Set.
Journalist April O'Neil is noticeably missing from the Toy Center's Benjour Pattern Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Action Figures set, which includes the four turtles, sensei Splinter and another masked figure.
4 Years and Up is one of the brands that omitted Rey from its The Force Awakens 6 Action Figure Pack. The character was introduced as the lead of the newest Star Wars sequel, The Force Awakens, which recently became the highest grossing film of all time.
