In a recent interview with Us Magazine the Blink-182 drummer admitted he crushed on the Kardashian beauty while he was seeing Hilton in the early 2000s. The two met in Amsterdam through the hotel heiress and became friends; nothing romantic came out of Barker's crush, he said.
"Kim was Paris' assistant," he told the outlet for its Oct. 26 issue. "She got all of Paris' belongings together wherever we traveled." The rocker said he felt attracted to the reality TV star immediately, calling her "eye candy."
"How could you not stare at Kim?" he said. "Mind you, I enjoyed hanging out with Paris, but I love curvy girls."
The father of two and Kardashian became friends upon returning to California after traveling with Hilton. Barker said they would "go out to eat, just hang out." The friendship was flirtatious, Barker said, "but nothing ever happened." He said the Kardashian sibling was "so kind and polite, I just felt like being a perfect gentleman around her. It was a trip!" On top of the romantic tension on Barker's side, the duo's friendship ultimately became a catalyst to help Kardashian gain global stardom.
According to Barker, Kardashian asked for advice about whether she should sign on for Keeping Up With the Kardashians when the show was still being negotiated. "I gave her the best advice I could, but I still remember the conversation like yesterday," he mused. He said Kardashian felt her family was interesting and the show could be something big. "Well, you were absolutely right!" he said.
Barker appeared on Good Morning America Tuesday morning, not to recount his friendship with Kardashian, but an event much more serious and life-altering: the 2008 plane crash which left him burned and four dead. The tragic event, and his 27 resulting surgeries, took a toll on Barker's family including his two children, he said.
"It was just hard for them to see me in the state that I was in," he said. "They color in class, and everyone's drawing pictures of their family or what they did on the weekend, and Landon's drawing a picture of a plane crashing."
