EDINBURGH, Scotland, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Author J.K. Rowling penned a new entry on her Harry Potter website Pottermore Tuesday, detailing the extended Potter family history for the first time.

The post entitled "The Potter Family" traces Harry's family linage all the way back to the 12th century where his family descended from the wizard Linfred of Stinchcombe who lived among Muggles as a potion maker and doctor.

"The wizarding family of Potters descends from the twelfth-century wizard Linfred of Stinchcombe, a locally well-beloved and eccentric man, whose nickname, 'the Potterer,' became corrupted in time to 'Potter,'" Rowling writes.

Other noteworthy tidbits include how the Potter family became in possession of the fabled Invisibility Cloak, an item which Harry utilized on his many adventures.

"Linfred's eldest son, Hardwin, married a beautiful young witch by the name of Iolanthe Peverell, who came from the village of Godric's Hollow," reads the passage. "She was the granddaughter of Ignotus Peverell. In the absence of male heirs, she, the eldest of her generation, had inherited her grandfather's invisibility cloak."

"From this time on, the cloak was handed down to the eldest in each new generation."
