Oscar Mayer announces real dating app for bacon enthusiasts, closely resembles another

Oscar Mayer's Sizzl app allows bacon lovers to meet each other in Tinder-like format. However, the app very closely resembles one launched by Farmland Foods last month.

WASHINGTON, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Oscar Mayer is entering the dating game with a new app made just for real-life bacon enthusiasts who are ready to meet their bacon lovers.

In a wacky promotion released online Wednesday, the meat seller alluded to the possibility of finding the love of one's life through the new app -- called Sizzl -- under the slogan "Find your bacon lover."

So far, the dating application is only available for iPhone.

Adding more meat to the Tinder-like operation, Sizzl allows users to not only "match" with potential "bacon lovers" but also measure the amount of "Sizzl" they feel for them. "The longer you hold [the Sizzl-meter], the more Sizzl you feel for them," the website explains. Those who join the site for recreational purposes but don't absolutely love bacon can be reported by serious users with the "Doesn't love bacon" function.

"In love, as it is in bacon, it's important to be discerning when selecting your perfect match and to never settle for less than the best," Oscar Mayer marketing director Eric Dahmer said. "With the launch of Sizzl, we're thrilled to give our true bacon lovers the chance to find each other and potentially meet their soulmates, in life and in bacon."

All might be fair in bacon-love and war, but business-wise, the launch of Sizzl has been smoked by a peculiar look-alike -- Farmland Foods. Adweek observed the meat company launched an ad for a similar application -- Sizlr -- last month, which claims to be the first dating app for bacon lovers. That one appears to be a spoof, because the app wasn't available for download.
