NEW YORK, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Lionel Richie is the next celebrity to take a Las Vegas residency in the wake of both Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez's successful runs.

The "Hello" singer appeared on the Today show Thursday morning to announce he will perform 20 concerts during two chunks of time: April through May, and September through October 2016.

Tickets for the Vegas performances, dubbed Lionel Richie -- All the Hits, start selling Friday for prices beginning at $59.

"All the ideas I want to put on the stage, any hydraulics, anything you want to do, it's there," Richie said of the residency. The singer and 66-year-old father to television personality Nicole Richie told E! News Vegas is "the hippest thing on the planet. It's a destination again."

"Every artist I know is trying to either be in Vegas from time to time or the residency," he added. The show, he said, will be in the fashion of "fabulous karaoke" because he predicts the crowd will sing louder than him. "There's no telling what's going to happen in the crowd, which is something I come to look for every night."

Richie is noticeably excited about his Vegas gigs, and expects his family to visit frequently. "We are going to have so much fun in Vegas," he told E! News. "The family is excited because we probably get to do a little bonding here."

Richie's Las Vegas residency kicks off April 27, 2016 at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.
