NEW YORK, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Sandra Lee will undergo surgery for post-mastectomy complications Tuesday.

The 49-year-old Food Network star announced the news Monday on Facebook, telling fans she and longtime boyfriend Andrew Cuomo, the governor of New York, decided "it's time for a mean backhand [serve]" to her breast cancer.

"I did my very best to avoid [surgery] ... but infection is an incredible monster," she wrote. "I am a long way from where I was and a long way from where I need to be, but at this point I understand that right now I just need to complete this unexpected phase of a tough journey."

Lee revealed she has breast cancer on Good Morning America after being diagnosed in May. The celebrity chef underwent a double mastectomy shortly after and was rushed to the emergency room for post-mastectomy complications just last week.

The Food Network star is known for her "semi-homemade" approach to cooking, made famous on Semi-Homemade Cooking with Sandra Lee. She has also appeared on Sandra's Restaurant Remakes, and published such books as Easy Entertaining at Home.
