Mary Ellen Trainor, 'Lethal Weapon' actress, dies at 62

MONTECITO, Calif., June 8 (UPI) -- Mary Ellen Trainor, an actress best known for her roles in the Lethal Weapon franchise and The Goonies, died, Lucasfilm president and close friend Kathleen Kennedy said. She was 62.

Trainor died May 20 of pancreatic cancer at her home in Montecito, Calif.

The actress was perhaps best known for her portrayal of Los Angeles police psychiatrist Dr. Stephanie Woods in all four Lethal Weapon films, which also starred Mel Gibson and Danny Glover.

Trainor also had turns in a number of movies in the 1980s and 1990s, including Romancing the Stone, Back to the Future Part II, Death Becomes Her and Forrest Gump.

She was married to Oscar-winning director Robert Zemeckis from 1980 to 2000. She is survived by her son, Alex, his girlfriend, Kat, her mother, Jane, and siblings, Ned, Jack, Barbara and Carolyn. A memorial service is scheduled for June 19.
