MALIBU, Calif., March 18 (UPI) -- Liza Minnelli entered rehab at a Malibu facility for substance abuse, her representative said.

The actress and singer has been at the treatment center for several days now and has made "excellent progress," a rep told TMZ.

The 69-year-old is there mainly for alcohol abuse.

"Considering she's doing so well, we expect that she'll be released shortly," spokesman Scott Gorenstein told People magazine.

This isn't Minnelli's first stint at rehab. She most recently attended in 2004 and was treated for alcohol and prescription drug abuse in 1984.

"She's living her mother's career all over again – being the biggest star in show business, peaking out in films, the weird marriages, the pills, the booze," a friend told people during her time in rehab in the 1980s.

Minnelli's mother, actress Judy Garland, died of a drug overdose in 1969.

"Liza has valiantly battled substance abuse over the years," the rep told TMZ on Wednesday.
