LONDON, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Former British rock star Gary Glitter, known in court by his real name, Paul Gadd, was found guilty of sexual offenses including the attempted rape of a child.

Gadd was convicted Thursday of one count of attempted rape, four counts of indecent assault and one count of sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13.

Gadd slipped into a young girl's bed as she was sleeping and attempted to sexually assault her. The unnamed girl did not come forward until 20 years later when Gadd was arrested on child pornography charges.

Gadd said he could not have committed the assaults because he wasn't in the house where the young girl slept on the specified dates and did not let fans backstage at performances.

He was cleared of two counts of indecent assault and one count of administering a drug in order to facilitate rape.

He will be sentenced Feb. 27 and at the age of 70, will likely spend the rest of his life in prison.
