NEW YORK, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Ellen Barkin and Ben Emmerson are not engaged.
Rumors the 60-year-old actress and 51-year-old lawyer are to be married surfaced this week, with Us Weekly reporting the pair got engaged after meeting at George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin's wedding in September 2014.
Emmerson is indeed a colleague of Amal Clooney's, but his rep denied the engagement in a statement to E! News, saying, "Mr. Emmerson is not engaged to Ellen Barkin." The barrister is an international law expert, and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2000.
Barkin was married to Gabriel Byrne from 1988 to 1999, and has two children, son Jack and daughter Romy, with The Usual Suspects actor. She and businessman Ronald Perelman wed in 2000, but divorced in 2006.
Barkin is known for such films as Clinton and Nadine, Johnny Handsome and Switch, and won an Emmy award for her portrayal of Glory Marie Jackson in television movie Before Women Had Wings. The actress will guest star on new Showtime series Happyish starring Steve Coogan.
