NEW YORK, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Nicole Kidman stopped by The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday to promote her upcoming film Paddington, but after sharing a story about a time she visited the hosts's house because she had a crush on him the two had a hard time getting back on track.

The partly-awkward segment began with Fallon reminding the actress that they had met before even though this was her first time on the show. He then went on to tell what Kidman called "his side of the story."

"I'm walking down the street in New York City, and my friend Rick calls me and says, 'Dude what are you doing? I have Nicole Kidman with me and she wants to meet you to be in Bewitched or something. I can be in your apartment in 10 minutes,'" he said, remembering he had nothing to offer her.

"I just remember I liked you," Kidman said while Fallon was telling the story. "Not now, I'm married now. But Rick was like, 'Jimmy wants to meet you and you can go over to his apartment,' and I was single...."

"Wait, what?" replies Fallon looking surprised. "What are you talking about? Could I have dated Nicole Kidman?"

The pair continues to talk about the encounter four about nine minutes -- even calling each other out for blushing -- and has a hard time getting back to Paddington. At one point when the audience breaks out laughing, the host jokes that "everyone's feeling the sexy little chemistry here."

"It's awkward and its just odd," he adds with a laugh.

Kidman's Paddinton also stars Ben Whishaw as the voice of the talking bear and it opens in U.S. theaters on Jan 16.
