NEW YORK, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Benedict Cumberbatch and fiancée Sophie Hunter made their red carpet debut on Monday.

The 38-year-old actor and 36-year-old theater director attended the New York premiere of his new film, The Imitation Game. Cumberbatch sported a black three-piece suit with black tie, while Hunter wore a black dress with floral embroidered detail and her large diamond engagement ring. The couple kept their arms around each other for photos, and were casually affectionate throughout the event.

Cumberbatch and Hunter met on the set of Burlesque Fairytales in 2009, but did not begin dating until earlier this year. The couple announced their engagement in an ad in The London Times on November 5.

Cumberbatch will portray real-life mathematician Alan Turing in The Imitation Game, and researchers at genealogy website Ancestry discovered last week the actor and logician are distant cousins. The film opens in theaters Nov. 28.
