Benedict Cumberbatch gets engaged to Sophie Hunter

LONDON, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Benedict Cumberbatch and his girlfriend Sophie Hunter are engaged.

The news was revealed by the actor's parents on Wednesday as they took out an ad in British newspaper The Times' Forthcoming Marriages section.

The Sherlock star's rep confirmed the news to the Mirror Online and said he was "delighted" to announce the couple's plans to wed.

Cumberbatch, 38, and Hunter, an opera director and actress, reportedly met while on the set of the 2009 film Burlesque Fairytales.

The British star is best known for his roles in Star Trek Into Darkness, The Hobbit, 12 Years a Slave and for playing the title role on television's Sherlock. He will next star in Alan Turing's biopic, The Imitation Game, as the main character.
