NEW YORK, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Amanda Bynes was reportedly caught shoplifting Wednesday.

The 28-year-old actress was at Barneys New York when she put on a $200 hat and walked out of the store, according to TMZ. Bynes was quickly apprehended by Barneys security guards, and brought back into the establishment for questioning.

Sources say the star told security she grabbed the hat to hide her face from fans, and had no intention of stealing the accessory. Bynes was made to sign a no-trespass agreement, which bans her from the store, and was released before four NYPD officers arrived.

Bynes was arrested for her second DUI in Los Angeles on September 28, and arrived in New York over the weekend. The actress returned to Twitter shortly after her move, and announced her engagement to a bait-shop worker this week.

Bynes has a history of mental health problems, and was previously living with her parents in California. She attended classes at the Fashion Institute of Design and Marketing in Los Angeles for some time, but is said to have been kicked out for bad behavior.
