NEW YORK, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Notable Yankee fan Kate Upton explained why she was banned from supporting her boyfriend, Justin Verlander, on the baseball field during an appearance on Live With Kelly and Michael Friday.

"I'm sleeping with the enemy!" the 22-year-old model said as she co-hosted the segment. "My boyfriend plays for the Tigers. I had to pick a side!"

Upton went on to explain that the Yankees banned her from wearing any Tigers gear when they played the Detroit team at Yankee Stadium on August 4.

"I felt it, too, when I walked in," she said of the game. "They specifically told me -- the Yankees told me -- 'You're not allowed to wear a Tigers hat! You're not allowed to wear any Tigers gear.'"

In spite of having to go through what Upton described as a "bad breakup" with her team, the model and her pitcher beau shared a nice moment on the field last Monday after Verlander tossed her a ball mid-game just to say hi.
