Depp, 50, and Heard, 27, first met on the set of The Rum Diary in 2011. Depp and former longtime girlfriend Vanessa Paradis ended their relationship in June 2012.

Depp showed off his engagement ring on Today -- yes, he was wearing a sparkling diamond ring, which he called a "chick's ring." He also accepted a congratulations for the engagement during his interview.

"She's a wonderful girl," Depp said of Heard. "She's sharp as a tack. A southern belle and sweet as can be, and very good for me."
